PONTA GARÇA, ST. MIGUEL – AZORES, PORTUGAL

This project concerns the construction of the Basic School integrated in Ponta Garça Vila Franca do Campo, S. Miguel Island in the Azores. The building is structured along an axis that follows the natural slope of the land in its greatest dimension, joining the north and south entrances.

For its design, an organization scheme was used directly related to the structuring matrix of the territory and to the autochthonous form of protection from the winds. The building is structured by bringing together the teaching spaces for which it is intended and is based on a structural and regular mesh that allows the simplification of the structural concept, increasing construction efficiency. Associated with each valence, an autonomous outdoor space was created that will allow enjoyment in safe and autonomous conditions with exterior elements suitable for each age.
